Innovation District Attracting International Attention
Justin Trudeau brought his charisma and charm to Waterloo Region on Thursday January 14th. His trip included stops at the University of Waterloo main campus, Blackberry World Headquarters and the new Google Canada Development Office in the Innovation District of Kitchener. At Google, Trudeau was speaking at the grand opening of the new 185,000 sq. ft development headquarters, which will be adding an additional 350 engineers to the Canadian team. He was toured around the incredible office which includes a full dining room, fitness facility and rock climbing wall. Don’t we all wish we had an employer with such incentives and benefits! Via the Canadian Press, Trudeau said “there is just so much to see” referencing the new office space. He also spoke more broadly on Waterloo Region praised it as an “extraordinary hub” for innovation “at the cutting edge of the global economy.”
Trudeau continued his whirlwind travel schedule after Waterloo, visiting Davos Switzerland for the World Economic Forum (WEF) . While delivering his keynote speech, Trudeau continued his praise for Waterloo Region and the extraordinary eco-system we have here! Via the University of Waterloo website, Trudeau “highlighted Waterloo’s unique ability to develop phenomenally talented, entrepreneurially-minded students and graduates.” The WEF is the world’s premier forum for public policy debate. This is a major platform and garners international attention for Waterloo!
